Must I presume, then, that I am in dire need of some kind of RIP to use Tiger with a 9000, or am being forced back to OS9 without one? I do own a rudimentary RIP from iProof for the 9000 that appears to have some additional controls in reference to ink laydown (haven't checked for head alignment, but can't that be done as well via the hardware control panel?). However it requires CMYK profiles only, a distinct disadvantage for inkjet printing, I would hazard.
From the few tests I have run using iProof-acknowledged paper and their profiles, I would hardly say I'm impressed with the grainy, possibly puddling, results and ridiculous pace at which the RIP chugs away compared to printing straight from PS. Certainly not enough to invest in the RGB/CMYK version of Pulse ColorElite, anyway.
I had noticed an abundance of ink being laid down by the 9000 through OSX just before I had to start tearing it down for its first maintenance routine. Waste tanks full, etc.
So I'm looking at financing or leasing ImagePrint in addition to purchasing Pulse unless I can get my old G4 running smoothly as an OS9 print server for the 9000, or at least those appear to be my options. Anyone please correct me if I have this wrong.
I'm beginning to wonder if I am truly flogging a dead horse beyond all reason, just because it is sitting here, and need to look at a used 9600 or a new 9800 instead.... Epson has me truly annoyed, though. Maybe I should be looking at a different brand of LF printer next. I know, wrong forum. I'm in that one too.
Thanks,

I also have one presumably idiotic question (I am fairly new to OSX) that I seem to be finding no answer to: I can't find where to turn off color management when printing to the 9000, since there is no Epson driver (they don't support it -- I am using the Apple-supplied GIMP Print for now). I would love to own ImagePrint or another good Mac RIP, but just can't handle the $$. What am I missing re turning off CM in Tiger?
The GIMP drivers don't do any sort of automatic color management that I know of unless you run the cups-calibrate command. They also don't work very well for imaging purposes from my experience. I've found them to lay down way more ink than should ever be necessary for any media, and there's no way to align the printer heads that I've ever seen.
