Without Epson branded printer drivers for X, that would be the most
logical choice. There are a great many options available in the
GIMP drivers, and if you are so inclined, you could certainly
fiddle around with them for a while and see if you can't get
something you like out of them. Certainly worth the few sheets
worth of paper the cups-calibrate command will consume to try out
anyway. However, I certainly wouldn't expect miracles from open
source software written and maintained by Linux users whose
interests in fine art printing are dubious at best.
As it happens, the very reason I started the project was precisely to
make high quality photographic prints under Linux (and no, I don't
mean cheap snapshots!).
