In my own personal experience, it's even better if, before opening the image
in ColorLab, one crops it to the very upper left and lower right-hand
corners respectively of the first and last color patches in the chart, so
that any white, or writing, etc, surrounding the color patches is taken out
of the image. This cropped image is saved as a separate TIFF image (no
profile embedded), which can then safely undergo the procedure described by
Liane May in ColorLab.
This way ColorLab will not be "tripped up" by any extraneous image elements
when one defines the number of horizontal and vertical color patches in the
"Spot Colors" dialog box.
