Nathan,
To get profiles to work their best, profiles need to work in pairs. This
enables the source and destination profile color spaces to be clearly
defined in the workflow.
So rhetorically, if the printing press data is not the Source profile (that
was Assigned in Photoshop) then are you suggesting that the Source profile
color spaces should be unknown?
Or some other type of profile such as SWOP v2 should be used as the source
profile?
And are you also suggesting that if the Source images color space is unknown
that you will get the most accurate color matching?
As for using Photoshop for Assigning a press profile, that sure sounds like
one of the right things to do in the workflow that Dennis sited.
However, if there is another way to do this (and their might be) I am all
ears.
