Another factor that might play a role is the printer driver. I am
having to print an 11”X14” image and the Epson driver would not
allow me to create a custom paper size. I took the advice from
MacFixIt Forum and downloaded: EPSON Stylus Photo 1270,
CUPS+Gimp-Print v4.2.5
This driver works very well with all my format needs and has many
resolution choices BUT there is no way to TURN COLORSYNC OFF.
ColorSync Conversion is set to STANDARD and the Quartz Filter is
set to NONE. I printed the EyeOne Target with these same setting
and hoped that as long as I printed with EXACTLY the same settings
I would be OK – but not so. With this GIMP Driver I can’t seem to
turn ALL printer color manipulation off so what do I do?
I don’t know if it is the GIMP Driver or an inaccurate setting in
calibrating the Sony Artisan or what but I have double checked
everything and I am using the right profile, etc. Would it make a
difference if I printed the EyeOne Target through Photoshop CS
instead of through the EyeOne Software? I don’t even know if this
is possible….
Finally, just for information sake, the final print ends up much
darker and richer than the screen version. I have used Proof Setup
view in Photoshop and it doesn’t make much of a difference. If
anything it makes the screen version lighter and even less like the
print version when I turn Black Point Compensation off.
The Gimp-Print driver does not produce identical colors to the Epson
driver. I presume you made sure to profile the output of the
Gimp-Print driver?
We know that the Gimp-Print 4.2 driver produces rather dark output on
a lot of Epson printers. We didn't change it in 4.2 because we didn't
want to break anyone's existing profiles, but we've made improvements
in the 5.0 development line. You may like to try the latest 5.0 beta
(Gutenprint 5.0.0-beta3, which can be downloaded from the same site).
This driver should be quite stable on the 1270.
