Not trying to beat this horse to death, but?
PM 5 refers to "Classic perceptual gamut mapping" as mapping out-of-gamut
colors to the highest and most-similar saturation point on the edge of the
gamut.
PM 5 refers to "Chroma Plus perceptual gamut mapping" as maps out-of-gamut
colors to the highest and most-similar chroma possible on the edge of the
gamut.
A quick look with Google reveals, Chroma refers to purity of Hue, as an
indication of the amount of pigment that must be mixed with grey to produce
a certain color. Saturation refers to the purity of color.
Recently on this list i believe, Bruce Fraser stated that one was more
likely to see deep blues shift to magenta with Chroma Plus than with Classic
mode. Andrew Rodney has said more then once he prefers Chroma Plus.
If one is trying to achieve VERY close color matches (not relcol match
proofs) but inkjet maximum Gamut color matches "witch is witch" and who at
GMB decided the above word game makes sense.
For what it's worth we're using a very well behaved Roland FJ 500 Hexachrome
that is calibrated before it's linearized with Onyx PosterShop. As an aside,
when people on this list talk about printer gamut being smaller then sRGB,or
RGB 98.One wonders if their experience includes the only printer to ever
achieve 97% of pantones color library, according to Pantone.
Thank you, for your time John Wickham
