Bob,
I know it sounds silly to go through all that trouble just to dim,albeit
neutrally, a lamp when simply backing it off would achieve the same result.
Well, it so happens that Solux lamps, the 35 degrees ones (the narrowest
they have) don't create a uniform beam of light. I'd say the beam
chromaticities is only consistent maybe a 10 degree radius, and then it
rapidly shifts to warmer CCT. I tried constructing special baffle to
restrain the beam to only this roughly 10 degree radius but it's not
perfect. To bring the illuminance of the lamp where I'd want to I'd have to
back the map like 10 feet away, almost. By then, you can understand that the
beam will color my whole desk. No. That's not the solution :(
