The profile is profiling not only the camera, but the method of
conversion as well. It won't be valid for a conversion by a different
method or raw processor. The method of conversion from raw data to
useable normal image is so wildly variable... especially with bayer
pattern chip cameras... that the profile has to include that process as
well. It's not profiling just the camera. The concept behind ACR and
some other processors is that you create a conversion that will move
the raw data into a well behaved common editing space and then go from
there. Basically bypassing the need for an input profile. ACR
provides numerous tools to judge and adjust the quality of conversion
before it occurs. There are some tutorials around the web for ways to
calibrate ACR by shooting a known target and building a set of starting
point adjustments for your particular camera.
