For those who own and use this instrument, could you confirm that a) it
scans (measuring) bidirectionnally, and b) that it re-calibrates every two
rows? I was peeking through the front opening of the device, this morning,
as a chart was being measured, and I could not help noticing that the head
does not just starts scanning when it reaches the right-hand side of the
instrument, where the calibration target is located. In fact, when the head
arrives at the left hand side of the instrument (where the GretagMacbeth
logo decal is applied), I noticed that all the instrument does is advance
the paper, one row worth, and proceed immediately to read the patches in
that new row. Not the same behavior when the head lands on the right hand
side of the instrument, it seems. It seems that when the head arrives on the
right hand side of the instrument, it does NOT advance the paper right away,
but instead the head is moved over the calibration target (it seems that
way, at least), a reading is made, and then the paper is advanced one row
worth. Only then does the head resumes its flight over the patches to take a
series of readings.
If anyone from GretagMacbeth monitors the List, please jump in.
