C.D., is possible to extract 'un-adapted' primaries, out of a given monitor
profile, for the purpose of simple comparisons outside of the ICC profiling
scheme of things? Like, if I send you my Eizo CG21 profile and that's all
the information you have about my monitor, you'd double click on the
document icon and you'd immediately be transported into Apple's ColorSync
Utility with the ability to view the contens of the tags present in that
profile. Say you then hover to the red, green and blue colorant tristimulus,
you couldn't directly take those encoded XYZ as 'absolute' -- I know there
are many ways of measuring emissive devices and encode the ensuing
colorimetry :(
But given that we all know that the ICC mandates that the primaries be
encoded 'adapted to the PCS' using some method of chromatic adaptation, then
the XYZ presented have to be un-adapted prior to serve in direct,
PCS-independent, comparisons like you suggested. Which is not trivial to do,
last time I tried.
