Monitors are, in many ways, quite linear devices, and simply knowing the raw color values of the primaries tells you the most fundimental information about that display's gamut. Is the green brighter than that of a Cinema Display? Is the blue deeper?
I suppose this could be useful if you believe that bigger is better. I don’t happen to subscribe to this notion. I’ve got a display sitting next to my Artisan that produces 98% of the Adobe RGB (1998) gamut and I don’t find a single compelling reason to prefer it due to a number of issues. IOW, the only thing it brings to the party is a wider gamut but I wouldn’t trade it in for my Artisan to do color critical work for all the dog bones in China.
