Not me, Kamil. I just said that the 17" Apple Studio Display LCD is
"supposed to be an inferior piece of equipment, comparatively speaking."
Meaning, compared to something of the caliber of an Eizo CG21 or CG220, or a
Lacie 321, or a Sony Artisan. On its own, it is quite a good device, better
than many in its price range made at around the same time it was still on
the market.

Yes. And of course it would be an even better device if its gamut extended
to those blues and oranges that my Apple 17" LCD is able to cover but seem
absent in the LaCie.

I am in complete agreement. The basICColor display software (and the very
similar ColorEyes Display as well) produces excellent profiles in the L-Star
(L*) mode. Not "spiky" or irregular, quite linear, and very neutral too.
I have not personally tried basICColor display with the LaCie 321. Has
anyone on this list? Any opinions?

I think some of us in this users list are being a bit hard on these new LCD
displays, some of which, to be honest, are quite amazing devices. LCD
technology has improved tremendously within a very short time span. What we
are witnessing now are growing pains, color-management-wise. The signs are
very promising, so far, that LCDs will eventually surpass CRTs in accuracy
(if it's not happening already).
Also, I believe that some are loathe to leaving behind those CRT monitors
that have served them well in the past, which is understandable. I
personally do not feel beholden to the Artisan. It seems to me that for some
this is at least as much an emotional issue as a technical one. I would not
be surprised if Sony were to come up with an LCD version of the Artisan some
time soon. Then my bet would be that those who now twist their noses at the
Eizo CG21 or CG220 would dash to buy the new Sony LCD... How much of it is
emotion and how much provable technological worth? You be the judge.
Best regards.
