A couple of weeks ago Andrew Rodney described the print speed of the
new Epson 2400 as "very fast". I'm currently in the process of
comparing the print speeds of various Epson printers including the new
consumer "R" printers R1800 & R2400 as well as the Pro models
4000/4800.
The published Epson specs for printing speeds on these printers is
listed below but they're a bit inconsistent in regard to paper size,
type and printing mode.
R1800 11x14" print @ 1 min. 51 sec (Photo Mode)²
R2400 11x14" print @ 1 min. 47 sec (Photo Mode)²
2200 8x10" print @ 2 min. 6 sec. (Matte Paper)<>
@ 3 min. 51 sec. (Semi-gloss Paper>)
4000 8x10" print (1440 dpi) @ 3 min. 40 sec (1440 dpi)
4800 8x10" print (1440 dpi) @ 3 min. 17 sec (1440 dpi)
Anyone have enough experience with any of these printers to offer
comparisons based on more consistent specs. The print time specs for
the two "R" printers seem exceedingly fast compared to the others.
What exactly is the "Photo Mode" for these printers, 720 or 1440 dpi,
bi-directional or single pass?
Converse to Epson's published specs, it's been our experience that the
4000 printers are faster not slower than the 2200's. Anyone happen to
know what "print mode" Epson is basing their 2200 speed specs? They
seem to do a masterful job at providing conflicting specs.
One final issue. It appears from Epson's specs that the new 4800
printer will not be significantly faster than the current 4000 model.
True or no?
Any and all comments would be welcome both on or off list. Thanks.
