FWIW according to the Apple site, Epson driver 2.11.01 is included in
Tiger.
This doesn't match up with the version number on Epson UK's website
which is
version 1.6b. I'm hoping the 2.11.01 is the date version of the Epson
driver
in Apple... is there a danger of installing 2 drivers for the same
printer
on OS X?
If he absolutely positively has "PhotoRealistic" and "No Color
Adjustment" options, he's using the Epson driver. If he can't locate
those, he's using the gimp-print driver.
The fact that there has been an improvement due to cleaning the print
heads makes me wonder if this is some sort of hardware or media issue.
One would think he has printed out the nozzle test pattern and that
*all* nozzles are working, but I would confirm this. Merely performing
a cleaning does not ensure everything is actually unplugged.
Also, did a google on removing the gimp driver and after 10 pages of
results
I've learned that a) you can do this in print centre or b) you have to
track
down and destroy all gimp driver bits one by one.
Can anyone straighten me out on this point of removing the gimp driver?
You don't need to remove it per se. You just need to use "Epson USB" as
the connection instead of "USB". Epson USB will make only Epson drivers
available, whereas USB will show gimp-print drivers.
[For Canon and HP printers, I'm not sure what happens because I'm
pretty sure they use "USB" regardless. So if there is both a Canon
manufacturer driver and a gimp-print driver available, I don't see in
the UI how these two would be distinguished from each other.]
