Roger Breton has written about the iterative profiling he has
done. Print Open V5. So it exists in profiling software. The
main problem could be that the fluctuations in printer output
are higher than the precision you try to create with the
iterations. And the method of measurements has to be very
consistent too. The only answer then is more averaging: more
target prints, more readings. It gets as slow as building a
pyramid and in the end you still have the inconsistency of the
printer.
That's my experience so far as well with this type of approach.
The randomness in the printer and the measurement is often on
the same order as the the accuracy of the original profiles
(given good profiling software...), so the very best that can
be expected is a slight improvement with the first iteration.
After that, the feedback is just trying to chase the randomness,
and naturally, it can never catch up to it.
Of course if you start out with a bad profile or one for a
different device, then you may see more advantage in the approach.
