Gamut mapping maps from a source gamut to a destination gamut.
To create the mapping, a source gamut and destination gamut
need to be available or assumed.
Does this mean that ICC v4 is "seeing" the RGB/CMYK working space of the
source image i.e.; RGB 98, ProPhoto RGB, SWOP v2 or the actual gamut of the
image as it is encompassed by the working space and then mapping it into the
destination gamut according to rendering intent ?
In the normal scheme of things the source profile will assume that
the gamut is defined by the source colorspaces gamut. Conceivably
one could create a source profile configured for a particular images
gamut, but in practice it would be an inconvenient workaround for
not having a "smart" CMM.
