Talk about ignorance (on the part of your printer) : he opened the file and
the first thing he did was discard the embedded profile! What color space,
Paul, was that file in?

In fact he did not even have to discard it, his Photoshop copy simply ignored
it.
The file was in Eurostandard Coated if I remember correctly.
The point is that most printers here will refer to the CMYK values of the
document when the profile is discarded.
They don't have anything to do with profiles except when they convert a RGB
file to CMYK, and save the file without the profile.
Pretty discouraging for sure! That's why I thought of the idea of submitting
profileless CMYK documents.
But I agree, it's walking with the blind and not the solution.
