I'm having difficulty reaching into the lower 10 and less Lightness levels
( L* < 10) using the EFI ColorProof XL linearization routine.
I know I could (and eventually will) post the question into BEST's own Forum
but I tought I'd ask here, first.
It seems I'm stumbling on a limitation of this RIP where I simply cannot lay
as much ink as I would like on my choices of inkjet proofing papers, to
reach into the deep recess of Lab. I tried increasing the percentages of
Light inks in Solids in "Step1" from the default 5% to 20%, 30% and 50% to
no avail. Actually, this does have some effect on the 400% ink level
Lightness value...but in Step1 only. Because, when I turn to Step2, the red,
green and blue patches are all flooded; I can't figure why? I also tried
designating a Reference profile in Step1 but that does not make a difference
at all in the result.
Currently, on a proofing paper sold here by Fuji, on an Epson9600, using a
Total Ink Limit of 225% and 20% Light ink in Solid, I cannot get better than
L* = 14, far too little for adequately proofing SWOP, :((
That problem does not occur with other RIPs I'm using, mind you...
Any ideas are appreciated.
