Is that true?
I thought that it was because 45° was the least distracting to the eye and
therefore much better to use for magenta than black in skin tone.
This sort of thing used to concern me in the *old days* when we output film
- but nobody seems to be concerned about this nowadays :(
If the OP is interested, I've got a book on PostScript screening that was
published by Adobe a while back - might be worth tracking down a copy for
research purposes?
ISTR that the documentation that came with Harlequin RIPs also had a lot of
useful information about screening. They used to provide a bit of an
advantage over other RIPs because of their ability to calculate the tonal
values in a bit depth of your choice.
The Scitex shops would weep when they saw how good *our* Xpress vignettes
looked :-)
