MSD,
When you say you had success ripping the cyan and yellow at the same
screen angle, did you use different line screens for each ink? Is this a
screen system you usen often?
Heidelberg offers the RT Y45 K fine screen system in which yellow and
black are both printed at a 45 degree angle, but the screen frequencies
are significantly different. The requested line screen is multiplied by
0.943 for yellow and 1.414 for black. For a 150 line screen job, for
example, the yellow would be come out with a 141.5 line screen and the
black with a 212.1 line screen. This system is recommended for flexography
and screen printing. by removing yellow from the 0 degree angle, this
screen system reduces moire between screen and slik screen or ink roller.

and have been looking into the Rampage technology for screening.
Rampage is - where it is at - in RIPping technology these days
and their screening is quite versatile letting the prepress use whatever
screening they care to, at the last minute.
I personally like the round dot for "standard" output.
