I understand that Bruce and Andrew did not like DPP. However I wonder
whether they are using a 1DsII ? What happens in my case is that I am
suddenly getting incredibly sharp and detailed images rather than soft
ones, from my 1DsII. I assume Canon's sharpening algorithm is tuned to
deal specifically with the anti-alias filter in this camera. The
pictures I got amazed me - if I had been able to get such imagery
earlier from ACR, I would have been so happy !
Several posters on RG have independently confirmed my findings here -
the sharpening algorithm in the new DPP is magical. Some people posted
they hated the interface, but the detail was now so compelling they
felt they had to change over, as I did. While I would *of course*
defer to Bruce and Andrew in anything color-related, usage of my
camera is something I am now fairly confident of. However, Bruce is
doubtless one of the people in the world who know how to use ACR best
;) and in his hands the converter might operate better than for me.
Your mileage might vary with different cameras. I tested on my 1DsII
and 85mm/1.2. The original 1Ds I own never had any sharpness issues
with any converter - it's just razor sharp, even when used with ACR. I
have it in storage, so I cannot access it. Let me stress that I am a
sharpness freak to the extent of shooting without a protection filter
in front of the valuable 1.2 lens !
Another interesting "feature" of DPP 2.03 is that I rarely need to
adjust exposure anymore. I don't know why this is.
