Is it folly to attempt to "profile" a digital lab? A new client sends their files out to several labs with (usually) disappointing results. From the way they describe their workflow it sounds like everything is sound, so I'm thinking it may be a worthwhile experiment to try profiling the lab. Given fluctuations in RA-4 chemistry is this advisable?
I’ve had no issues with several labs running Lightjets. The key of course is process control but a good lab should be able to control this. RA-4 chemistry can and should be controlled.
I am under the assumption that most labs want to receive sRGB files and that they just run them as-is. If that is indeed the case then I don't see why this wouldn't work, except for the chemistry issue mentioned above.
Some are lazy and should not be called “pro labs”. Others are working with devices that always assume the source color space is sRGB (although some devices like the Fuji Frontier can be set otherwise).
