Eizo versus the world

I've been sitting back reading all post thinking this is almost as fun as the
age old synthetic versus non-synthetic motor oil post that flares every now
and then on another list I read.

Now to the point, and my observations.

I've had several 21" CRT monitors with the Dimondtron tube (3 Lacies and two to other makes).
I just purchased two Eizo L997's, profiled them with ColorEyes.

#1) The LCD is no less than threet itmes as sharp, and ALOT easier on your eyes. I originally purchased just
one L997, and after about two days of my eyes getting used to it, and then jumping over to my other
work station I realized the sharpness difference is huge, and I could hardly adjsut to the CRT. So, if your eyes
are important, and eye strain is undesirable, that's a big plus.

#2) The color range the Eizo produces in dark and difficult colors is much more accurate than my old CRT's.
Even more so than I originally thought...I've experienced an alomost 50% reduction in hard proofing compared
to what I was doing previously with my CRT's...saving time and materials. I did'nt expect this much of a gain.

#3) I've seen side by side comparos of Eizo, Apple LCD, Artisan and Lacie. Same image, all profiled with same
software...the Eizo was clearly sharper, more even, and had more shdow and highlight detail. The CRT's were in
my opinion not even in the same league. If you are a CRT defender...checkout a fair side by side comparo. The
sharpness differential is huge.

Are there other good LCD out there? Yes. Is Eizo the best of what I've seen? Yes. I'm very happy with these two
units. I also saw the CG220 in a similar comparo at the Print 2005 show just a few days ago. Very nice picture quality,
but its also a big price jump which we all know will come down as they produce more and market competition arises.
Is it worth the jump in price? Maybe. It really depends on your application.

Eizo, and my dealings with them also strikes me as a company who is ready to help the high end user with excellent customer
support...something that is invaluable with any purchase of any specialized equipment.
