Hi Dean,
I don't know about your particular driver, but the header of the ICC profile has field with that information.
(Bytes 56 to 63) See page 19 of ICC Specs (ICC.1:2004-10). www.color.org
7.2.14 Device attributes field (Bytes 56 to 63)
The device attributes field shall contain flags used to identify attributes unique to the particular device setup for
which the profile is applicable. The least-significant 32 bits of this 64-bit value are reserved for the ICC. Flags in
bit positions 0 through 3 shall be used as shown in table 18.
Table 18 - Device attributes
Bit Position Field Length (bits) Attribute
0 1 Reflective (0) or Transparency (1)
1 1 Glossy (0) or Matte (1)
2 1 Media polarity - Positive (0) or Negative (1)
3 1 Colour media (0), Black & white media (1)
NOTE Notice that bits 0, 1, 2, and 3 describe the media, not the device. For example, a profile for a colour scanner that
has been loaded with black & white film will have bit 3 set on, regardless of the value in the data colour space field (see
7.2.6). If the media is not inherently "colour" or "black & white" (such as the paper in an inkjet printer), the reproduction
takes on the property of the device. Thus, an inkjet printer loaded with a colour ink cartridge can be thought to have "colour"
media.
Thanks,
Stan.

Subject: information
In the Printer properties in XP, you are able to select AUtomatic or Manual
for profile selection. You then may add profiles to be associated with the
printer. Auitomatic states that it will pick the best profile for the paper
type. my question is , how does it knw which profile to select? if I
associate two prfiles for a device, one glossy and one matte, how does it
choose? does it look for the paper name selected in the ppd and then look
for an idenically named profile? I need help on this one
