Title: Re: Paint color for copy room
Standard viewing conditions call for a neutral gray environment
(all surfaces). Lighting conditions are also important. I will send
you a follow-up email off-list with some PDFs I've accumulated over
the years.
The following is the "formula" for Munsell #8 Gray, in
case you need it.
Sincerely,
Richard

Here is an easy way to get the
politically correct gray paint for your
image editing and viewing environment.
Go to your local PPG Paint dealer (PPG used to be known as Pittsburgh
Paint
and Glass) and have them mix up the following formula:
1 gallon Interior Latex Flat Pastel Base 80-110
B-12 L-36 O-3
This will make one gallon of Munsell #8 gray wall paint. Looks
real nice
in our digital darkroom.
A nice light gray, not oppressively dark. I got this formula
about 18
months ago from Enid Allen, Senior Product Specialist with Gretag
MacBeth.
She informed me then that the Munsell gray scale goes from zero to
10,
where 0 is black and 10 is white. You can kind of get a feeling
where the
#8 gray fits in. Thanks Enid, it's nice to be able to share
this
information with The ColorSync Users Group.
I'm prepping a room to be used to
photograph art for reproduction purposes.
What color/paint would you recommend in this instance.
Munsell N-8 grey?
Black, i.e. Darkroom black?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
