I believe it started out in Germany in the 70's as "Unbunt Aufbau" or
something.
In Crosfield we used to call it "Extended UCR" before Marketing came up
with "Polychromatic Colour Reduction" (PCR).
As has been pointed out GCR is not related to the Black starting point but
to the amount of tertiary colour replacement in dirty colours.
Although most folk using it would tend to have a lower black starting point.
Hi Phil,
That's right.
It started in Kiel.
At that time I sold Crosfield scanners.
Real lithographers loved these "Unbunt" color separations.
So we, me too, asked for a Crosfield GCR and we got PCR.
I like this discussion on GCR and UCR.
It shows, in my opinion, that the old skills are still appreciated.
Regards,
Henk
P.S.: Later on I sold the stuff from Kiel! Whow!
Could we generate a list of former PDI, former Hell, former Crosfield and
former Screen specialists now acting as CMS and Print consultant!
