I think you've hit upon a MP/DTP41 weakness. The newer DTP70 and
Pulse don't rely on spacers for their testcharts which makes for
smaller testcharts. The only downside to the position registration
that they use is that the testcharts cannot be scaled even by as
little as 2%.
Although patch scrambling has advantages when profiling presses, your
Epson and Iris printers should be so consistent left to right and top
to bottom that there is no advantage to scrambling. If you have less
measurement problems with unscrambled testcharts then you should feel
good about using them on these printers.
