Of course the recommendations were for case (2), overinking/bad ink behavior.
If it's an RGB profile, there's not much to do, except playing with
the RGB driver settings (maybe using a color-adjusted mode instead of
raw, etc) or trying diverse ink limits, be it in the driver (some
drivers provide limits, or at least a "more ink - less ink" slider) or
in the profiling software.

settings is not the solution since there is no black channel for RGB output
profile.
