Are any other list members using EFI's Offset Proof Paper 9200 Semimatt?
I'm very suspicious that proofs made using this paper on an Epson
9600 are unstable.
We re-proofed an image which had a background colour of 10 per cent
black only and had it rejected by the client because it didn't match
proofs that we'd produced only 4 week's previously.
We asked them to send the proofs back to us so that we could check
them. Unfortunately they had trimmed the control strips off - but it
was plain to see that the proof had become very yellow and both the
simulated paper white and the neutrals were noticeably more yellow
than our freshly printed proofs of the same image.
The client assured me that the proofs hadn't been subjected to direct
sunlight etc and the fact that the yellow discolouration was
completely even across proofs that had been stapled together seemed
to back this up. We know the colour was correct when we made them
because we have a record of the readings from the control strip that
were made before delivery.
My assumption was that FOGRA approval of substrates would include
longevity - but I'm not so sure now. The returned proofs looked like
they were 4 years rather than 4 weeks old!
We have noted that Epson inks will go yellow if subjected to heat or
friction (just rub them with a repro wipe to see this), but the
evenness of the discolouration on the A2 sheets that we saw could
only be achieved in an oven using Epson stock :-(
