Subject: Creating Proofs for ISO Coated & FOGRA Proof Verification
Hi All,
I wanted to revisit these topics from back in July although the discussion
then centered around creating proofs for SWOP.
My publishing company is now looking into creating & verifying the proofs
for use with our overseas Asian printers.
Whereas before I would profile and match my files to their digital proofing
systems Creo Spectrums & Kodak Approvals with FM screening I am now
basing my files on the ECI 2004 Offset ISO 12647-2 standards.
We currently are in the process of setting up a Epson 9800 with K3 inks /
GCS ORIS Color Tuner / ORIS PearlPROOF Super proofing stock / GM i1.
Can any of you that are already doing this care to weigh in with pros / cons
/ comments or advise on this process and the best results that I might
expect?
One main concern that I have is that even with a proof that is verified in
this case by ORIS Certified Proof where the average dE is less than 4 and
maximum dE is less than 10 when the FOGRA wedge is read (or even halving
these figures as some suggested) - am I really going to end up with a
³contract² proof that my overseas printer is going to be able to accept &
match on press? Of course I realize much of that depends on the quality of
the proofing system and my Asian printers expertise.
But with the ECI and DigitalProof forums in Germany now adding measurements
for changes in hue and the IPA Proof Round Ups adding Visual Match - along
with other criteria since all the proofing systems seemed to be able to
meet the wide numeric DeltaE tolerances - are these ³verifications² which
as I understand them rely ONLY on numeric deltaE measurements - really
going to give me a accurate proof-to-press proof?
