That is not an easy call. Far from it. Printing on flexible substrates can
be anything -- litteraly. It could be very dark as in completely plugged up.
It could be "normal" as in 20% dot gain. Or it could be washed out as in too
light. It depends on a lot of factors. Even if they told you what aniloxes
they use (300, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200) there is no telling in what shape
they will be at the time your job is ran, or what BCM they are made to. Even
if they told you what kind of press they use (stack vs CI), there is no
telling what viscosity their inks are prepared for. And even if you would
have all that information there is no telling what hue in CIE Lab units they
print to, consistently. If they do their homework, which can be very costly
to them, in terms of press calibration, you'd have all that information to
work with.
Bottom line, until you know more, aim for SWOPv2. And do send them the best
calibrated proof you can with the job. Their prepress dept probably uses
some internal profile (custom or not) that they use to reseparate every job
that comes in the door. Let's hope so. But again they may just take your
CMYK and make plates from. At least, if you give them a proof to aim for,
colorwise, I figure you have a fighting chance.
ISO-12647-4, I believe, was prepared for flexible packaging. It calls for
the same ISO-2846 CMYK ink compatibility as SWOP or ISO-12647-2. It could
provide a starting point for further communications with the printer or
guide you in assuming things intelligently at your end.
Best of luck,
