Klaus,
I remember a discussion here a while ago about using XMP to record profile
conversions information. Did not seem too complicated to implement.
I found it, thanks for the hint:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/colorsync-users/2004/May/index.html
Threads "XMP color descriptions" and "No More RGB/Taking a CMYK delivery
on" ... and once again we mourn Bruce Fraser.
I hoped Photoshops XMP implementation would be clever enough to record
such informations automatically, but it is not (at least not yet "out of
the box").
I played around with Photoshops history recording capabilities right now
again and it seems that Adobe solved some pitfalls since v. 9.0 -- but
there are still some left:
* you need to set the history logging level to "detailed" to see more
than just "convert to profile" -- an get overwhelmed with informations
you (or any other recipient) does not need in this case.
* if you use "WorkingCMYK" or "WorkingRGB" in the conversion dialog,
Photoshop does not record the profile name.
* informations can be lost if you are moving Layers between documents or
use copy and paste
* there are only two possibilities to store the history:
- inside the files as XMP-metadata (this can be a undesirable for
privacy reasons) or
- inside *one* *TEXT file* per user (no XML and therefore not easily to
be parsed)
I'm quite sure that Pound Hill's MetaGrove Plug-In can do a lot to
by-pass this pitfalls, but It's not exactly low priced and I worry about
the implementation overhead (database-server, ... ?)
Does anyone know a way to control Photoshops level of detail in
recording history metadata? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Klaus
