Hi Chris,

the SWOP profiles (reference profiles) have nothing to do with the paper profiles.

not correct in this case.

Rolf,
Thank you for the response. Unfortunately that doesn't explain why Best EFI does have SWOP specific paper and base linearization files for Colorproof 4.x and refers to specific base linearizations in the SWOP ADS document for version 5.

you're correct, chris. the SWOP profile used by Best (filename: Best_SWOP_ref_0802.icc) for certification in 2002 was pretty heavily edited (internally identified as "Edit13 of SWOP 00-15-124 measured 7-11-2002 (Pol).icc"). it's quite different from my TR001-built profiles and Adobe's SWOpv2 profile, which are very close to each other.

i'm in the exact same boat you are- BCPv5.x, epson 7600/9600, and epson papers. i tried to put this together for awile, and finally just gave up.

unfortunately, i don't think it's possible to stitch together a 5.x workflow that's "certifiable" via their SWOP ADS (http://www.swop.org/certification/certmfg.asp#efi) with the resources available on their website. the ADS was never updated for v5.x, period, and as you mentioned, the 4.x procedure won't work. they finally updated their ADS for XF, but that does us no good.

for my part, i wasn't willing to use their paper, so i just went through the certification procedure on my own, essentially- bought the SWOP kit and calibrated to it. i'm very happy with the match i've achieved- while using a vanilla TR001 reference profile, no less. never seen a "certified" Best proof to compare it to, but i really doubt it would be any better.
