We map device gamuts onto other device gamuts. I have to question the
notion that we do so reasonably well if the goal is optimal image
reproduction-the CMS only knows about the space in which the image
resides, not about how much of that space the image occupies! With
ProPhoto, you'd REALLY need to know which part of the space the image
occupies.

Doesn't seem that difficult to do on the face of it : if we can map gamuts
reasonably well between devices why can't we do the same between synthetic
RGB spaces?
