One other question Will,
when will NEC release windows x64 drivers for that monitor - and its
spectraview II calibration system?
Good question. It is being worked on, but some video card manufacturers
have not completed the parts they need to put in place for this to work on
Windows x64.
Now that I have heard of your interest, I will break out the whips ready
for Monday morning ;-)
heading to a full 64bit OS (Mac and Windows) is inevitable (and here
already), and a vital part of the road to a complete >8 bit image pipeline.
To state the definite requirement for such OS's to attain this goal in your
white paper, but *not* support them with your hardware when companies
produce them (at great expense and effort) is kind of ridiculous, don't you
agree?
Yes I agree, and we are actively working with Microsoft and the video card
companies to make this a reality. However keep in mind that 64 bit Windows
XP doesn't add anything as far as supporting >8 bit color.
Vista is coming in a matter of months, so you're going to have to bite this
bullet anyways...
If Microsoft get's their act together, the core Vista OS will supply the
necessary portions that are currently delaying implementing x64 support for
the calibration software.
