Hi Dan,
Thanks for that. Good point about AbsCol. I hadn't considered comparing
AbsCol simply because I don't use that intent for printing photography -
either RelCol or Perceptual. But excellent point for "apples to apples"
comparison.
RE UV/brightener skew, I used the DTP-70 with the UV filter engaged for both
software packages so that should be "apples and apples".
RE curves, I used the same curve for both - MaxK for Gretag, and the same
straight line for Monaco.
Of course, I guess it just comes down to Gretag weighting something else as
a little more important than neutrality in the RelCol intent calculations.
My understanding of the RelCol rendering intent led me to believe I should
have seen closer results from the two packages.
Good point about v4. Unfortunately, the Coloshop X tool doesn't display the
neutrals analysis graph or data for v4 profiles. Ugh.
The whole Monaco reversal thing still bugs me. I mean, given the same data
(RIP setup, etc.), Gretag produces a neutrals curve with a nice rounded
shoulder, leveling off to a very slight slope such that output for L*0 is
slightly darker than L*1, etc.... while Monaco has this "hump" at dMax, then
gets lighter from there down to L*0.
