A prospective customer asks if I can improve his simulations
(newsprint on Xerox Phaser 7550) as they have trouble with the
graybalance. The guy has profilemaker himself and have built custom
profiles on the Phaser which is linked together with the official
IFRA newspaper profile. The problem is the grays ( a 35% black source
will become brown).
They have tried to build a devicelink in Phasermatch from the printer
profile to the printer profile (which should be a null transform) but
this ends up making things bluish. This of course makes Phasermatch
a likely suspect.
Thomas,
This really depends on the version of PhaserMatch and the printer
profiles you are using.
First of all contact your local Xerox reps. You will need PhaserMatch
3.0.1a. The regular
delivered version is 3.0.1, which is not able to create reliable
device link profiles by itself.
3.0.1a is not downloadable.
Externaly generated device link profiles should work, but I did not
try yet.
I had good success with this strategy and PhaserMatch 3.0.1a:
- Use an EyeOne UV Cut. Substrates you most likely are printing at on
a Phaser 7750
(like Colotech or ColorCopy paper) have a lot of UV brighteners.
If there is no EyeOne UV Cut
available, you manually have to correct the printer's white point
in ProfileMaker.
- Be careful to have the correct job settings (Photo etc) consitent
thruout the whole process
- Do linearisation with the PhaserMatch calibration tool first, then
profile.
- Do a profile of your printer outside of PhaserMatch (the ones
PhaserMatch gererates are
not essentially the best). I use basICColor 4c for my profiles,
but ProfileMaker should work.
- Create a device link profile in PhaserMatch, using IFRA as the
source and the newly created
Phaser profile as the destination.
- Download the new device link profile to your Phaser.
Some other issues:
- Don't use the supplied Phaser profiles. They will not match.
- PhaserMatch linearization does currently not work on Mac OS 10.4.3
& 10.4.4. Apple
changed some USB related stuff that beaks the driver for the
EyeOne. Monaco Systems
updated their software last week, so a patch for PhaserMatch
should be available soon.
- When using device link profiles on your Phaser you will end up
being able to print either
CMYK or RGB colors in a good way, but not both at the same time.
Hope this helps,
Karsten
