Howdy yawl,
I've spent the last week wrestling with a variety of proofing light
sources over our consoles in our press room(needs updating badly).
I've got several GTI booths, Just's, and some "custom" made fixtures
with Phillips bulbs. With input from my pressmen, I'm attempting to
standardize all of them. Our plant internally generates Canon and
Epson ink jet proofs. We get a variety of other proofs(Fuji finals,
Matchprints, color Lazers, ect. . .) from the multitude of customers
we have. We have several web presses, and we generally print on
lightweight No 5 papers. I seem to have the best real world luck
using the Just bulbs. I noticed a new brand of bulb on Just's Website
called Daylight 5000 ProGraphic. Anybody using these? Know of any
deficiencies? I'll probably buy a couple of them to test.
I'm brainstorming before I send the purchase request to the CEO.
One other related item, while having the paint for the viewing area
custom mixed at my Sherwin Williams paint store, I made them re-
calibrate their spectro before reading my Macbeth Color Checker
swatch. The store manager was nice enough to let me see their
software, and I was able to select a light-source for the particular
mix of the paint. It was set on "incandescent", and I had them switch
it to D65. The only other choice was a generic "florescent." Anyway,
I pretty happy with the match.
Thanks in advance for any input,
Scott Campbell
