Hello Michael,
The iO has a height adjustment for the arm - the user slides a corner of the
media to be read underneath a sort of "platform", and adjusts its height
until it clears the media thickness. This sets up the arm to glide over the
media just high enough to avoid touching it, so no "dragging".
Seems to work well. I've used it on various glossy & matte papers, no canvas
yet, though.
