My statement doesn't also include the point that at least PSCS2
ignores the wtpt tag in v2 profiles. Effectively CS2 treats v2
profiles like v4 profile with respect to the wtpt tag. But we may
have been talking about two different things also.
The wtpt tag has been ignored by Photoshop for soft proofing
purposes, where the display profile is the destination proffile,
since Photoshop 6, and other Adobe applications shortly thereafter.
What's new in CS2 is ignoring it when a Display class profile (which
includes editing spaces) is the source profile.
But motivations are far apart: Bruces motivation is operator
error, Chris motivation is adherence to v4 ICC specifications.
It's for better consistency with v4, by providing the same effective
behavior for existing v2 profiles and also to head operator error off
at the pass. All the editing spaces are still v2 profiles. And the v4
spec doesn't say Adobe has to have this behavior with respect to v2
profiles.
