This is most helpful information. I did not know there was a standard for
characterizing the dynamic range of a scanner -- manufacturers beware!
Thank's Bertho too. I looked at your notes but I don't have any explanations
to offer but the ones you came up with. I agree that it is more than the
sheer ability of discrimate among dark tones but the ability of
*simultaneously* discrimate among both dark and light tones in an original
or a natural scene we're after.
