I'd like to use Gutenprint on my Mac (Tiger) as a poor man's RIP. How do I send CMYK files directly to print ? Is there a way to get at the various curves ? I'd be creating my own profiles of course -
Edmund
Hi Edmund If you go to the "Gimp" site you will see that there is a new version of Gutenprint (from May 06?). This worked pretty well for me. Is useful on Epson and other printers with poor CMYK handling. It does have many controls for CMYK densities, Gamma, light C M start points, etc, etc. If you spend a lot of time setting and testing these to get the optimum before profiling (always save them as Presets!) you should get nice results. Make adjustments in "Printer Features" found in normal Print Menu. Be careful you don't go to far. I found that reducing Magenta Gamma gave "contouring" on test gradients I printed. Always test before profiling! Under Feature Sets/Gutenprint Output Control Extra 1 2 set Color Correction to "Uncorrected" if you are building a profile. Good Luck!
