Hello Rick,
Saw your note here on the forum and thought I might chime in with some words
of advice.
First of all, it's important to clarify the difference between a digital
output target and a Qccolor target. An output target is a bunch of digital
image values, formatted as patches that can be read by a color measuring
device. An output target can be "found" (you may have an existing target
that you would like to work with), or can be made using a few different
methods. If you are interested in making a target yourself, the easiest tool
to use is probably Colorport (free, download from www.xrite.com). Once you
have built and/or selected the output target you would like to use, you are
ready to build your QC target.
To build your QC target, print your output target and measure it using the
QCcolor target designer in ColorshopX (one of the 3 system components). The
designer will let you convert your measurements into "standards" against
which your continued workflow can be measured. The designer also lets you
define global and custom tolerances, all of which gets wrapped up into the
QC target file. When you're done stepping through the designer wizard, you
can save your target to the database.
After that, you should be good to go. Just reprint the same target routinely
and remeasure against the original values using the MonacoQCcolor pass/fail
client. It should give you quick go/no-go feedback, allow you to print a
sample sticker to label your print, and submit the results back to your
database for future review and reporting.
How often you measure is largely a function of what type of corrective
effort you would like to make. Some users run the "colorbar" on every proof.
Some users run the target all by itself a couple of times a day. B running
the target on its own, you can probably afford to run more patches and can
use a "no color management setup" in your workflow. Of course.....if you run
the target on every proof, you have the option to measure or not to measure
- and can validate a specific proof as opposed to just gauging the
consistency of the device.
Lastly, thank you for your purchase of X-Rite solutions. If you have any
additional questions, please feel free to contact tech support at:

Also, look for a pretty significant upgrade coming very soon. The new
version will have more sample files and includes a new server architecture
that is way(!) faster and includes a custom label maker that lets you fully
customize the data that is presented on your verification sticker.
Best regards,
Marc
