Hi All.
I found out about the Photoshop 9.0.1 & ColorSync printing bug right
after I made several profiles for my two new Epson 4800 printers.
I believe I have confirmed that MonacoPROFILER also suffers from the
same bug. I invite others to confirm or negate my findings.
I have downgraded to Photoshop 9.0 and my prints now all come out
without the flesh tone problem, but I was suspicious about my
profiles. Please read on to see my findings.
I usually print the patch pages directly from Monaco Profiler, but
sometimes they just don't print (nothing happens, the job just
disappears), so in that event I save TIFFs and print from Photoshop
with No Color Management.
I had created a profile for Epson Enhanced Matte at 1440 DPI by
printing directly from MonacoPROFILER, and another at 2880 by saving
the patch pages and printing from Photoshop 9.0.1 with No Color
Management. After finding out about the bug and downgrading to
Photoshop 9.0, I compared the two very similar profiles and they
perform without the flesh tone posterization and colors became more
saturated.
At first I thought that this confirmed that my patch pages printed
from Photoshop 9.0.1 were not effected by the bug. But I see that
Photoshop's No Color Management print stream is effected by the bug.
So I still had doubts about my profiles.
I then compared my profiles to prints I made with the Epson Enhanced
Matte 2880 X-Rite profile available for download from Epson. The reds
are oversaturated and the greens lack yellow (with my profiles) when
compared to the Enhanced Matte 2880 profile from the Epson web site.
So I set about making a new profile for Enhanced Matte 2880. This
time I printed the patch pages from Photoshop 9.0. Now my profile is
much closer to Epson's, with some small improvements over it,
probably because my profile is printer specific.
To me this demonstrates that patch pages printed from MonacoPROFILER
are indeed affected by the bug. And I need to recreate all my
profiles! Looks like another long weekend in the cave for me! :( :)
All my tests were done with Relative Colorimetric intent.
Anyone else had similar experiences?
