I do a lot of profiles for Canon copiers and here is the methodology that
works. I am assuming you are using an EFI Fiery RIP.
1. Perform a Gradation Auto Adjust on the copier.
2. Use ColorWisePro Tools from EFI to perform a linearisation of the RIP
using your spectrophotometer if you have a DTP41 or EyeOne Pro (called the
ES-1000 in ColorWisePro Tools) or you can use the scanner part of the copier
to perform an AutoCal linearisation.
3. Output your profile colour patches with the CMYK simulation profile set
to None. This turns off the profile conversion in the RIP.
4. Create your profile using either Offset or Inkjet 400 separation but
limiting the toner to 280-320 depending on copier model.
5. Use ColorWisePro Tools to upload the profile to the RIP and set as the
output profile.
The Laser setting uses mostly black toner for the neutrals and this can look
grainy. Using more colour and less black produces a smoother looking print.
