Since when is RGB device independent?

When using one of the standard RGB working space profiles, one could say that these RGB profiles are "quasi" device independent since they are not tied to a particular RGB output device such as a monitor or RGB photo printer. Technically they are not device independent but in practical terms they function as a device independent color space for transfer of RGB digital data. At least I think that was what the original poster was trying to convey.
