They are on to something good, however they do it. But I doubt that a
digital camera "can't see purple". After all, silicon is sensitive to the
whole visible spectrum -- and more. It could be that the RGB filters used on
the chips do filter out "purple" but I doubt it. You could say that the CCD
or CMOS are not as sensitive to longer wavelengths, like blue and indigo, as
they are to medium and short wavelenghts like green and red, but I don't
agree they make digital cameras insensitive to purple.

At $49.95 a pop it does not seem like a big financial risk, does it?
