then you will find that a correctly calibrated Eizo (I still prefer
basICColor Display SW) is a big step up for you.

You are on the right track.

That's the feeling of many potential 220/221 purchasers, it really does
depend how important it is to see that last bit of detail in saturated
areas of a displayed image. Some can certainly justify it, especially
when working with scans (which can contain detail far outside Adobe
RGB, let alone <average display RGB>) and high gamut output.
Don't get me started on clipping of tonal detail in conversions between
scanner space and Adobe RGB. [You can read up on Joseph Holmes opinions
on this - that's what got me started thinking about it.

I've been using a 2410W in my office alongside a CG210, I do, of
course, see advantages to the CG 210 - as you'd expect gradations are
better (less likely to show posterisation) and uniformity / viewing
angle are better. But in photo manipluation, in a restricted budget
situation, as long as you are sat pretty much straight on to the screen
and understand that faults shown in a very smooth grad may not be in
the file, the 2410 is a great screen to getv started with - at a very
competetive price. I'm sure the same can be said for the CE240W.
In the UK, where we are based, Eizo give a full 5 year warranty on the
entire panel.
I've supplied quite a few CG screens to happy clients - but it's also worth
saying that clients for whom I have supplied 2140W and 2110W have been
very happy too, especially when calibrated/profiled using basICColor
Display software. IMO uniformity is far better than most LCDs on the
market.
On the luminance question, I'd say it's almost entirely based on
ambient conditions, and, of course, a users desire for longevity.
