What do you mean by "attribute" ?
Different things, in fact, depending on the sintax
used to express those colours.
When a CIE-based colour space is used, I would say
that it gets referenced to the ICC colour profile.
When dealing with a device colour space, I would
consider the %¾ginICCProfile...%%EndICCProfile
section to be integral to the colour definition.
The the ICC spec indicates that there is only one circumstances where
ICC profiles might usefully be embedded in EPS files, and that is where
services such as OPI need to do color conversions along with image
replacement.
Mmm, not sure about this...
Is the suggestion then, that Photoshop EPS files with embedded ICC
profiles are a source of images for an OPI server ?
It seems to me that there are two very different kinds of
Photoshop eps files.
When "PostScript Color Management" is on, colours seem to
be expressed in a CIE-based colour space referenced by the
ICC profile.
When the option is off, a device colour space seems to get
used with no %¾ginSetColorSpace...%%EndSetColorSpace
comments; but the 'ICCProfile' section is still there.
Probably. Technically a PostScript file could indirectly refer to
a CIEBased colorspace if the "UseCIEColor" switch is flipped,
so that the device colorspaces are passed through the CIEBased
colorspace machinery.
How this interacts with %¾ginSetColorSpace/%%EndSetColorSpace
I haven't thought about.
It seems to me that we completely agree about the ICC
specification. We possibly also share the problem of
understanding what device-based Photoshop eps files
are good for when it comes to ICC standards.
If you are after definitive answers, you need to talk to someone
at Adobe. Perhaps Chris Cox may choose to answer your questions ?
I don't know about Chris, but I certainly know about Dov Isaac
publicly labeling eps as a <yikes> legacy </yikes> format. :)
Frankly, I pretty much gave up asking for help on Adobe forums.
I'm still waiting for an explanation of why the Hue/Saturation
command should aim to c=m=y when desaturating an image and, as
regards the formulas used for cmyk transparency by all Adobe
software and the Pdf format, they seem to be regarded as a
secret sauce.
Thank you for all your help. This list really shines!
