I don't see that my settings are changed, but:
if you change the contrast by the keyboard shortcut, the SLIDER in
the universal access settings does NOT REFLECT this, so it's not
obvious that it's changed.
2) Is it possible to automate disabling the default key combination
for changing the contrast?
Go to the Keyboard and Mouse settings. Under Keyboard shortcuts,
you should be able to switch them off.
